PAUL FANLUND: TOMMY UNCOMFORTABLE WITH SWASTIKA. It's somewhat comforting for me to read that an ardent "progressive" like Fanlund sees former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson as being painted into the same thankless corner that I do.
Anyone who lived here during Thompson's long golden era of prosperity and bipartisanship (and yes, a few backroom deals) feels like they know Governor Thompson pretty well. He's a decent man and has always been your quintessential Wisconsinite, a guy from humble small-town beginnings who must certainly be horrified when confronted with the Romney/Ryan/Rand/Walker vision for America: enslave the middle class and working class and give their money to the rich (the ones who deserve it, to use a rough paraphrase of Romney's comments last week).
Tammy Baldwin's commercial informing us that Tommy Thompson: He's Not For You Anymore is a backhanded reminder of a time when you would have been hard-pressed to find anyone in Wisconsin who could truly poor-mouth Tommy. And now, Fanlund says that Thompson is "forced to parrot virulently right-wing talking points" and also refers obliquely to the fundamental decency of his (Fanlund's) old nemesis, George W. Bush.
The reason you never hear a peep out of our former President anymore? He's been silenced by the swastika.
Ditto Tommy Thompson.
These men could ensure an everlasting legacy as truly great Americans if they would be the ones to break the news to America that the Republican Party has been hijacked by rabid cryptofascists that seek the destruction of the American way of life and the enslavement of her people.
This is so sick that it's almost funny.
