08/02/2012:

STATE OF THE UNION: In the 55 years I've called this planet home, I can't remember a worse time to be an American.

Let's look at a few problems currently facing my homeland:

* Spiraling debt;

* Crushing unemployment;

* An ever-growing number of overutilized military veterans ("one tour of duty in Iraq, two in Afghanistan") returning home to a largely indifferent nation;

* A shadowy, cynical cabal of billionaires seizing control of entire state governments;

* Obama facing off against Romney. Yeah, that'll change things. Who cares who wins? Same old shit either way. More fiddling while Rome burns.

But, hey... at least we've got great reality TV.
