THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The election is over and went about as expected. Posted by Alois on
More accurately the incumbent party got their asses kicked at mid-term as they always do. That in and out itself should be a sign of how much our political system is broken. We kick the bums out every two years because neither party gets the job done.
So the media has begun talking about how the two parties have to work together. That's total bullshit, of course. The two parties quit working together about twenty years ago and that's why the system is broken.
There are two things that motivate most Washington policitians today. One is getting elected/reelected and the other is to attain power and influence. I think we can safely assume that the motive for getting relected is money. Power and influence is driven by ego and also assists the motive of reelection. Why else would a person spend $140 million of their money to get elected as Meg Whitman did (and lost)?
What happened to the concept of what is good for the country as a motivation?. That minor detail has gotten lost in the greed that now drives our society. We have largely become a selfish country driven by personal greed rather than national good. It is me instead of us. Our forefathers were just the opposite. National good is much harder to achieve but it benefits everyone.
We have gotten away from our basic foundations. We are not getting out of this until we return to those foundations. That will not happen by voting politicians out of office and electing others. That may help some but it really has to happen by change within ourselves. It took us a long time to get into this mess. It will take at least as long to get out. But we have start sometime. How about now? — Lewis Medlock
Thanks for the plug!
