AN INTERESTING QUOTE by journalist Nick Cohen, and I'm not surprised at all that Andy Sullivan glommed onto it (it so typifies his obsessive wishful-thinking). I'm going to supply some snarky fisking as necessary:
Around the world, liberal opinion has descended into anti-Americanism and fellow-travelling with totalitarianism...
Umm, yes! So far so good!
Liberals will find it harder to carry on with their old debased ways if Obama takes charge...
And why exactly is this? Because The One will call them out for it? I ain't buying that condo yet.
Many will, of course,
Of course.
but some will recover their wits and return to honourable politics.
Oh, sure. Honorable politics come from honorable people. Why should a man whose "former" best friend and mentor is an invective-spewing racist demagogue, who continuously lies about his longtime association with terrorists both foreign and domestic, inspire a "return to honorable politics"?
I'm one of a growing number of Americans who think that Obama is going to inspire nothing so much as a return to re-education camps.
My own suspicions are more in line with a commenter on Cohen's statement:
The belief that Obama as President will force liberals to become more honourable is quite a statement. It is a good idea to start the process of explaining who is to blame when Obama fails. It seems to me that first to blame will be the Jews since Obama will not be criticized. Second, they will blame Bush since blaming Bush for anything and everything is a reflex. Indeed, if one can blame Bush for a hurricane and some light-hearted gags at Abu Garaib [sic]--you can blame him for events that happend after his watch. But when will the left ever be blamed by the left: NEVER. That is a guarantee. Posted by Alois on
