ANYONE ELSE JUST A TEENSY BIT OUTRAGED? I know I am, growing more so by the hour it seems. You know that 800+ page pile of dead trees the President is soooo eager to put his *special* pen to? You know how he keeps telling us that just as soon as it's passed we'll be able to secure the borders, that we NEEEEEEED this bill in order to do that?Well guess what: I am finally able to join the ranks of those who have insisted for years he was a liar and a demogogue. Of course he wasn't one all those times they said he was, but now that they (by "they" of course I mean liberal Democrats) think he's finally got something right, he lives up to all their accusations!Let me be (not) the first to say it: LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE!We don't "need" this bill for border security, not at all. We don't "need" it to do anything other than legalize those currently here ILLEGALLY.I'll take it a step further and say that I now honestly believe that the President, and the open-borders loons in Congress (and business) have PURPOSELY refused to enforce our laws these past several years in order to ensure that this day would come, that they would be in a position where we would (they hoped) be begging for them to ram some massive compromise down our throats, just so we could feel that something, anything was being done to stem the flow of unknowns into our country. They PURPOSELY put us all at risk people, think about that for a second... I might even suspect that Bush held off on campaigning for fellow GOP lawmakers during the mid-terms PURPOSELY so as to ensure he'd have the liberal majority he'd need to push this shamnesty on us.Why do I say all this? Because several of the brave holdouts have written a letter to the President *calling him on it.* Oh, not in as pointed language as I've used here, they stop short of accusing him of dereliction of duty and sabotage (as I have), but make no mistake, they are telling the President to uphold his oath of office, and they wouldn't feel the need to tell him this IF HE WERE ALREADY DOING IT.Here's the letter:Dear Mr. President:We respectfully ask that your Administration enforce the border security laws that have already been authorized by Congress regardless of whether the Senate passes the immigration reform bill. The bill assumes that several critical border security benchmarks can be achieved within 18 months. These security triggers are already authorized under current law and can be completed without the immigration bill. We believe these enforcement measures are vital and should not wait until Congress passes additional immigration reforms.Securing the border is the best way to restore trust with the American people and facilitate future improvements of our immigration policy.Sincerely,U.S. Senators Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma), Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming), David Vitter (R-Louisiana), Jim Inhofe (R-Oklahoma), Jim Bunning (R-Kentucky), Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), John Ensign (R-Nevada) and Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama).
Now of course the President's answer to letters like these is that these brave men (and those of us who agree with them) are nothing more than bigots, people who don't like Hispanics. Ah yes, when you can't argue on the merits insult your opponents, how very mature, how very "Presidential" (NOT).A few Senators writing a letter not enough evidence for you? OK, take a gander at this list they compiled of laws or provisions currently already signed by the same man who insists that this bill would trigger them:The Senate immigration bill calls for the following security benchmarks to be completed as a "trigger" before other parts of the bill go into effect. Bill proponents claim these provisions can be implemented within 18 months. All of them can be implemented under current law:• Bill Trigger #1--18,000 agents border patrol agents;-- This is already scheduled under current law: Customs and Border Patrol Press Release 8/4/2006: "In May, President Bush announced his commitment to hire an additional 6,000 agents by the end of 2008, bringing the Border Patrol's total strength to 18,000 agents."• Bill Trigger #2--200 miles of vehicle barriers, 370 miles of fencing, and 70 ground-based radar and camera towers, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles;-- This requires less than is already required under current law. The Secure Fence Act, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bush in 2006, already requires 700 miles of two-layered reinforced fencing along Southwest border, mandates DHS achieve operational control over entire border through "virtual fence" that deploys cameras, ground sensors, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and integrated surveillance technology.• Bill Trigger #3--End "catch and release" and provide ICE 27,500 beds for immigration detainees;-- According to DHS, both of these triggers have already been accomplished. DHS Press Release 10/30/2006: "Ended 'Catch-and-Release' Along the Borders: In 2006, the Department of Homeland Security and ICE re-engineered the detention and removal process to end this practice along the border… ICE also increased its detention bed space by 6,300 during the fiscal year 2006, bringing the current number of funded beds to 27,500 immigration detainees."• Bill Trigger #4--Secure identification documents with photo and biometric information and operational employment verification system to determine work eligibility-- The REAL ID Act, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bush in 2005, already requires secure identification documents with photo and biometric information.-- The Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2007, passed by Congress and signed into law in 2006, already provides $113 million to fully expand the Basic Pilot / Employment Eligibility Verification (EEV) system to be a national employment database.
Convinced yet?

Way to go Mr. President. It wasn't enough that half the country already hated you, you had to make sure all of us did before you left office? What's that about? Did Jimmy Carter tell you that was the fastest way to a Nobel Prize? As you might say, "I just can figger it!"Posted by Deb on
It's gotta sting a little bit- being called UnAmerican racists by this failure of a president you've been defending for more than half a decade.
But, well, you made the bed.

You guys just hate our freedoms. That's the ticket.

yb detsoP--love that handle. Very original.
It's actually quite simple. I think I speak for Deb and Klaus, as well as myself, when I say that WE JUST WANTED TO KILL TERRORISTS. And it seemed, at first, that Bush was pretty serious about doing it.
We did, of course, mistakenly assume that he would also care about defending our sovereignty.
And let me say something else here: I admire Deb for having the guts to say what a lot of other folks on the right won't say. Assuming that you're on the left side of the fence, y'all might learn from it.
Hard to admit you made a mistake, but there it is.

We have a real problem down there now! A group took over stronger than the cartel and they are attacking our border agents hitting them in the heads with rocks. They caught, can you believe this 1/2 a million trying to get in just recently! 1/2 million!
