ANSWERS, ANYONE? Why is it so hard for (ostensibly) intelligent people to grasp the concept that to "negotiate" with someone, you must give them something they want? The question then becomes, what does Hezbollah "want" that Israel could give them that would lead to "lasting peace" (as opposed to "time to reload")? Answer? ISRAEL.I'd like to ask the anti-Israel, pro-negotiate-no-matter-who-no-matter-where-no-matter-when crowd for once and for all to step up and admit that when they call for
negotiations, they are declaring that this—in their minds—would be a fair exchange. It's time to stop sugar-coating this debate. Reality is, you either think Israel has a right to exist or you don't, period. If you want to "negotiate" with those whose stated aim is the destruction of Israel outright, then you are saying—in no uncertain terms—that you do not want the state of Israel to exist. Problem then becomes, where would you like all THOSE people to go? Do their children not bleed? Do they not have "innocent civilians" in their population? Or are such classifications only reserved for non-Jews the world over? Not that they'd answer truthfully, but I think we all know the answer to these questions. The answers we don't know are: - Would you leave your home in any coastal state—let's take New York as an example (with NYC and Long Island being on the coast after all)—and march into the ocean because violent Iroquois, Mohican (if there were any left) and other native tribal extremists were lobbing missiles into midtown Manhattan or downtown Syosset?- Would you encourage legal citizens of Arizona, New Mexico, S. California and Texas to pick up and leave if members of MECHA or La Raza suddenly took up arms against them? Would that be a "fair" trade? It's really too bad gambling and drinking are against Muslim law because I suppose the people who think "negotiation" always has a chance would suggest that Israel just give Hezbollah some casinos built and paid for by their tax dollars in exchange for being allowed to live. We did that with the Indian tribes, and that's without worrying about being blown to bits if we didn't! The left needs to wake up and realize that Hezbollah and other terrorist groups don't give out right-to-continue-to-exist passes to those who are anti-Israel. As far as they're concerned, infidels are infidels are infidels. Unless you're planning on taking up arms with them against Israel, you might as well be a member of the IDF with a bulls-eye on your back. If only our attitude towards the terrorists could be the same.Posted by Deb on
