Since 9-11 I watched anything on tv I could about Ahmed Massoud and read the article in Vanity Fair by Sebastian Junger and Reza and I cried. I felt like throwing dirt on myself and weeping. For what a man. What a beautiful man. I believe Afghanistan should have a national day of rememberance for him like we do in America for very special people. The thing about Massoud was he was like no other. He fought with God by his side and against all odds. He I believe was one of our last greatest heroes. I light a candle every year for him and pray. When I mention his name no one knows who I am talking about. I try to get them to read the article. The real beauty was seeing him on tv. He had a beautiful smile and such a beautiful heart. He gave so much. All Afghans should be very proud. I wish us Americans recognized him more. He tried to warn us. Let alone his bravery was so great. He loved his people so much. I have a few pictures on my wall of him. One praying with his men before he would go off to fight another him laughing in a tent and then the picture Reza took. What makes him so special he did not give in to evil and he held down Afghanistan or there would of not been one. For so many years he fought and he did extraordinary things. With little to nothing to fight with. It still touches my heart so deeply. I believe everyone should know who he is. If he were alive today I believe bin would of been killed along time ago. The Northern Alliance is amazing. They are brave. It all makes me cry so. I will never forget him or to light a candle for him.9-9. He gave 100%. I love our men and women who fight to keep us free from harm and we truly have some great heroes. Massoud stands out for I dare anyone put themselfs in his shoes. Well I guess they did Harmi Karzi did. I watched him on tv too. He is so gracious. What a brave sole. God Bless him. I cry when he speaks. He is so humble but forthright. I have learned alot from him. Such brave people. It is quite disturbing our so called "Allies" were on board. For 10-01 I was already thinking we needed to go to Iraq but it did take away the things US could do for Afghanistan. People do not have the insights Massoud did. They don't understand. Or they are just plain ignorant. I pray for all you good people. I pray that God turns their hearts around that are evil but if it is stone then I pray they are destroyed for ever more. For the ones that are beginning to even think about killing innocents I pray they see the light first. When I see Abdullah I see Massoud through his eyes and the emptyness he endures as all the people do that were so close to him. I can't express the love I have for people like Massoud and living on this earth the same time he did and then loosing him. It is so painful to loose any loved one. I never met Massoud but he is a connection of my heart beliefs and feelings and the love we share when we do believe in such a powerful God and a loving God. There is not much difference in what we believe. For I believe in Abraham, Jacob and my greatest foundation is that of Jesus Christ. My grandfather knowing Hebrew Greek and Latin, took the oldest text writing and translated God's name back to Jehweh. He was a minister and wrote a book never published called The Image of God. For we are made in his image. As I believe and he believed we are so close to all these teachings. My grandpa was of coarse way way smarter than I though. I have his book and I want to publish it for his heart was that of gold. He is with God now and I am sure he has embraced Massoud. You are a beautiful people and very brave. I love you all. God Bless you and all the good people around the world. It is not bravery to blow yourself up to kill women and children and men too. It is bravery when you can do something in your life like Mr. Massoud. I thank Sebastian Junger for what he has done to honor Mr.Massoud. God bless you too. Thankyou. This article posted that I read is so true and so very sad. I believe so too. The world truly does not know what it has lost loosing Massoud. For we have lost truly what the world stands for. It lived in Massoud. I will miss him and the fact that people have not embraced this love. He was a true gift from God and God truly gifted him. A true Holy man as my grandfather. Mr. Massoud though a true warrior. His love lives on. Peg ,MI.

Peg--

Thanks for your kind and thoughtful words. I have always said too that, had Massoud lived, he might have changed the course of history (and this is, of course, why al Qaeda had him assassinated). He was a remarkable man in every sense of the word, and I admire him greatly.

I have a T-shirt with Massoud's image. Even though I live in highly-educated Madison, WI, no one seems to know who he is (I'm always asked when I wear the shirt). I find it appalling that a man who gave so much to the world is unrecognized, while images of Michael Moore and Che Guevara are everywhere.

But then, that's why the world is in such a sorry state...

Thanks again for writing.

Peg

Dear writter I thank you for your reply on my letter about Ahmed Shah Massoud. I immediately burst into tears. What a good idea to have his picture on our t-Shirts. I am going to do the same. It will make a few eyes roll but how proud I am to know of such a great person and leader. He has touched my very sole and I do find it amazing people are so shallow. For what an ocean of love one man can have. How true how true that idiots are more recognized like a-0 moore. The things Massoud did are remarkable and each thing he did was that of love for people. In which he could of lived a good life but he was not like that. He was celestial. No one cares here either but wouldn't they if you could just explain the stories of him are glorious. Saving his people as he was surrounded by the enemy and trapped in the mountains and then he blew them up to enclose his people to protect them and it worked. The recognition and things he did for women. The fact he fought so many enemies for so many years. If I could have I would of rode a horse along side him and felt quite confident we will make it. All these self absorbed people in the world constantly destroying the very fabric of America and anyone else they so happen to choose. I taped Massoud off of tv for it was so great to see someone with true meaning and bravery. I really don't understand why they never mentioned him again. It was as if it all started on 9-11 but Massoud was fightning the evil for years and years. I am not well educated but I did have my grandpa and he did give me the ability to know someone else so great. Jesus Christ which gives me insights to the powerful Almighty. What a man too. Thankyou for the response it has touched me for someone does know this thing we are talking about that is untouchable but still very alive. But people are not choosing life they choose to flow with the flow and they have no idea, not a clue. God Bless you and thankyou it was beautiful to hear such a connective response. Peg

Peg

I forgot to mention I all so have a t-shirt that reads OSAMA'S A PUNKASS BITCH. I would like to send it to you. Or send a picture of it. It's nice for hanging, the only problem he's not in it. Peg

Alois

Thanks for thinking of me, Peg... but we at Schmaltz und Grieben accept no gifts from our readership so as to ensure our continued impartiality!

Peg

Alois, I keep on giving, I hope. I understand. You don't know what your missing.., peace of crap! No, the T-shirt, no bin. I am working on my NEW T-shirt more positve. AHMED SHAH MASSOUD. I all so wanted to note: I lit a candle on 9-11-01. By 11-01 I was fortunate to talk Larry King and Mr.McCain. First they screen you. She ask what is the ?en? I ask 'what are the chances of bin and sodom two cave dwellers,' she cuts me off, you Cant's say cave dwellers. sodom has 23 palaces. Lilly Tomlen probably. It's FUNNY they found him IN A HOLE. I ask Mr. McCain and he assured me they will catch bin. I have it on tape. Can I hold him? My kids couldn't believe me when they came over. They knew it was me. I had the worst of worst nightmares and it was about B.O.B. I woke up and could not breath! This is evil vs good. I knew we had to go to Irag. It did not matter how we got there. I have dreamnt these things since I was a child. I pray to God for insight. Even though it is overbearing. God knows what I can endure. He blesses me. Of coarse people take it as I being a smartass! No one wants to hear. Of coarse they are on the far left but as certain people are, stuck on being smart they are moving to the center more. Iraq, it is where Algetu fled to, their safe haven. As "I" have said THIS War needed to happen. Look at all these weapons we have seized. Money saved, Food for Oil. Not to mention lifes! We have once again stood and gave lifes to perserve others. Massoud knew this war is about Evil vs GOOD. The anniversary came around I always light a candle for Ahmed Shah Massoud then comes 9-11. I will never forget his legend it will live on. He would of never dreamnt it but yet he did not care. He believed in giving his life such bravery and sacrifice for other people and that is all that mattered. Peg MI

Peg

Out of LOVE. For his people. I'm sure there is a word for it. My grandpa would tell me. Maybe that would be the belief of GOD.PegMI

Peg

I am really honored, yet more, humbled too, that you chose to post my letter. For such a Great Man, Ahmad Shah Massoud. My words cannot express the love, compassion I have for such a note worthy beloved person. The Bible describes it to the BEST! Can you imagine having an army and no one speaks the same language? Yet they fought and prayed for the same things together everyday. You know bin had him assinated for he knew the Americans were coming after 9-11. Mr.Massoud would have been one of our Greatest of Allegiance, better than the ones now. People don't know what they, we, have lost. Ahmad could have taken us Giant leaps forward. There is nothing that can take the Great Legend away. If no one knows him than how do they know what this war is about? Ahmad was a victim indeed to the plot of 9-11! I pray this 9-9-06 people light a candle for Ahmad Shah Massoud. Muslims too, light a candle. Good ?ened. I get the impression Afghanistan is uh...about to Kabul? Isn't that where Massoud conquered it? Some one blog quick.. may mess up my facts.PegMI

Peg

Just like to say my T-shirt turned into a sweatshirt. The first person to see me wear it said, "Oh My God..) I smiled yep! Then they realized this is Massoud!!!! They said, oh oh that is the guy you talked about. I said yep The Great Masssoud! In 2002 I was in a store downtown and almost bought a (Pashnir)?, Hat, just like Massouds. I should have. It freaks people out for some of them think you have joined the enemy? Or flipped out, totaly. When you educate them they are a bit mythed. I'll be ready for summer though. I have really been thinking about I hope and pray Afghanistan continues to get all the help it needs. For I wish I could go in the store and it says made in Alghanistan instead..Pakistan, I don't get it. Just as I invented a mine sweeper to rid the mines there. It was so dang hard to paton ect. I don't understand why China doesn't donate some of those toy robats and help that way. Instead they keep making Toys!! Or donate some Hi-tech cameras for road side IED's , I don't get it. I all so want to say if there was a chance at all Ahmed Massoud family read this I would like to say you are very fortunate. The picture of Massoud and his son are worth a million dollars. I see a image of his father. The wife I thankyou for giving this man love and a family God Bless you. I pray for you all. Alois thankyou ever so much for I feel I can exhale but it is great to know more and more people are seeking out the truth. While doing this they have no other way then to face the Great Lion Massoud. They may find something there more than they were looking for. I hope a tree is growing for him for his branches are starting to reach out. God Bess You All, You too Michael and wife I pray for you too. Peg Mi

Peg--

A couple things. The word you want is Panjshir, for the Panjshir Valley in northeastern Afghanistan where Massoud was born and raised.

Also--I don't know why, but you've somehow gotten the idea that my son is married. He's not. He's a single college student scratching for a living in Jerusalem. He used to go to school in New Orleans, but opted to attend Hebrew University after they quickly agreed to accept student refugees from Hurricane Katrina. He's very happy in Israel.

It's ME who is getting married, in June, for the second time. So mazel tov to me (and JoAnn)! ;-)

Peg

mazel tov Alois and JoAnn. I knew you was getting married I saw your picture and JoAnn. I sent my congradulations once. I did get your son mixed up with someone else. I read the things from Michael in Israel, to Egypt ect, I believe now Michael Trotten? I'm sorry about that Michael make you married before you are. I am happy you are able to continue your education where you are. One good story from N.Orleans. Your dad is kind enough to educate me a little. I have it Pete Panjshir. I won't forget for it is the valley of where Massoud was born. This sounds so good. I hope you and JoAnn the best this coming June. Actually I wish you all the very best in this New Year. Thanks Shalom Peg

Michael Totten, I mean sorry, I'm gone Peg

I'm worried. Harmid Karzai, said today to the USA don't forget Alfghanistan. He was saying the same thing Massoud did. If we do we are asking for it. Did we not learn our lesson once? Besides that I just know when we mess up like this, we should fix it. Make it right to the best we can. There are still land mines, Taliban and you cannot roam free. Besides I would like to go to the store and buy things made in Afghanistan not Pakistan. Let alone let the Afghani's do the same buy USA instead of China. (O)smile. Seriously, I am afraid, I pray. Everyone is reporting in the Middle East even though no one believes in it. What has happened to Afghanistan? PegMI

Peg

I was wondering, what Ahmed Shah Massoud's favorite poem was? I tried to find it. If you know can you help me? Thanks. I'd really like to know?

MASSOUD'S TREE
A poem of a tree
Just for Massoud
for it grows deep in the earth and above
Those that do not know you will
for this tree grows in memory still
a child, a man, fearless fighter, a man of history, in earth and above
a man's who's love
was so big you could call;..Air
for no matter what
this is what we shared
Love, torment, sacrifice, and happiness
for what a man, we should learn
strong as a tree that will live on
Massoud by Peg in reuturn of your love

Peg

Good evening..I have been asking myself for awhile if I should leave this poem? For it is a question we ask ourself's alot. I wrote for my brother and Grandfather. WHY?
Why will drive you crazy
If you ask why
then you are in seek with knowledge
We are made to suffer
In one way or another we were all made to suffer--
WHY
because we are human
not without sin, not perfect
No one is above the Lord Jesus Christ
God so loved the world
he gave his only begotten son
Jesus had to suffer but
without sin
he saw the world for what it is
So what worth is life
if we do not suffer
Through sufferring we can learn to
have the strength, courage and knowledge
We can choose between right and wrong
God forgive
Let those who don't know you
come to know you
LET IT BE THY NAME
JEHWEH

I will have to add on to the poem soon for what I have been learning in my Grandpa's Book, that God suffered-He showed His Love through Jesus Christ His Son whom suffered the Calvary. God had completed His Accomplishment and Goal. The New Life, a life for us. God and Man. The New Humanity. Jesus was the Perfect Image of Jehweh His Father. A Perfect vessel. For Adam a marred vessel as we all are.
I have alot to understand yet so forgive me.

Peg

I forgot to mention my Grand-father was a scholar.

montrealgirl, Thankyou in Heaven and on Earth. For soon as I get it I will put it next to Ahmed Shah Massoud's picture's. I better wait to get home to read it for I will surely cry! This is the very good news to me. Thankyou, Alois, and montrealgirl. PegMi

Peg

Montrealgirl, I just have to update you for you have been so kind. I just ordered the book, there are none in the book store. I don't mind, it will take a week. I am so thankful for this. I will let you know soon. Thankyou ever so much! God Bless You!

Peg

I would like to say I got the book and I have been reading for four straight hours now. Wow! That was something! Mr. Rowan should be really proud for he did a fine job! How fortunate! To have been able to do what he has been able to do. He all so is smart and knows how to get around. Lucky too. Page 67 he ask how safe is he? If he only knew at the time. I found it say's one of Massoud's favorite poets. Hafiz of Shiraz. I can't repeat it I guess for I am bounded by the book, umm. So, what it does say, is pretty heavy! Indeed! In fact as I read I would keep that in mind. By page 7 I started to cry already. I was afraid where it might be heading. I wonder if Mr. Rowan drives his wife crazy with the stories? I ask for I drive people crazy with great reads like this about Great People such as Ashmed Shah Massoud! On page 75 I felt like Massoud for a split second for my eyebrow raised when he asked you that question. Yes, I think he is exactly and more who I thought he was! What an interesting story and alot of history and facts. I have to continue reading there is alot to learn here. Just had to let you know Alois and Montrealgirl thankyou! Thankyou too writer A.R.Rowan for your dedication!

Peg

On the Trail of a Lion is a very worth while book to read. Thankyou! I went to Barnes and Nobles and picked up "The Gift" poems by Hafiz, he wrote over 5,000. These poems are nice, the ones I have so far. It shows how very much we are all alike. As I use to say to my late Grandfather. Humor, hair, shyness, love, boldness, competence, beliefs, fear, lonliness, hunger, thirst, ignorance and stupidy, desire I hope to become better! We have beauty and uglyness. One thing Christ gave us was the ability to chose. People say to me now, "it just doesn't matter anymore!" I say "YES IT DOES! While I was buying Hafiz's book. I ask the lady, do you know any of the poems Massoud read? She says try "Love Poems from God". I come back up, and ask her, do you know who Massoud was? She smiles, and says,"yes". Now what are the chances of that? I say, "What a man, heh?" She says "yes" and she ask if I read anything in there? I said yes, the first poem I read I knew I wanted it. These poems are translated too. Wow, and they speak to you as if a friend. She says she buys the books for her friends. Some poems are dated 1200, 1800, you would think they were written yesterday, and Hafiz is in there too. There are alot of people and history of them. It is sooooo goood! She says the poems are so so ..I say everlasting, perpetual in time. On there on axis. She said, "it is nice to know someone who knows all this." "I agree", I say! There are many more books I wanted but I was up to $50 already. This is alot to read and good to keep picking up.

Peg

It is important to add David Ladinsky the translator. He was born in St.Louis Missouri. Where my grandfather lived many years and serviced a church. I was on the farm once. Empty but beautiful three barns and a hand pumped well and a river. These poems show a view of love and peace. It is a sweet version of Muslim beliefs too. More like the view I would consider Massoud took and believed in. It was a new Hope for his people which I believe there is Hope yet. Thankyou Mr.Ladinsky to uncover these gifts for us. PegMi
